Sylvaren Is Putting On a Show, and It Knows You're Watching

Sylvaren Day. The forest at the edge of Veloris — dense, perpetually dark, and entirely aware of the effect it's having.

Twisted trees stand in bold silhouette against a night sky that never quite lifts. Branches thread overhead; sickly green and purple flora pulse along the floor with a faint bioluminescent glow. On paper that should frighten you. In practice Sylvaren has a swagger to its spookiness — campy, theatrical, self-aware — and the muddy path winding through it reads less like a trail than a running order.

You pass a gloriously chaotic dump heap. A grimy curiosity shop stocked with bottled oddities and frankly suspicious wares. The velvet-curtained mouth of Volcalla, where the Battle of the Bands goes off beneath twisted gothic arches. A dim game parlour holding the riddles of Lexicle and Mastermind. Every structure ramshackle and weathered, each lit by its own flickering lantern or eerie crystal glow.

I've covered a lot of venues. Few commit like this one. Sylvaren performs its haunted theatrics nightly for an audience of whoever wanders in, and the total sincerity of the bit is precisely why it works.
