Where it lives
Species practice and the crew ladder both run from the Defense Center aboard S.A.S.S. Nova. You bring one of your pets, the encounter is a level-1 projection, and your companion stays safely aboard while it runs.
Species practice
Every species you can face has its own weekly ladder, and the roster grows as you discover more: the starter set is available to everyone, and each species you record adds another projection to practise against. The board is explicit about what the next win pays before you commit.
Each species pays 25, 10, then 5 SC for your first three wins of the week. Later wins still earn XP, and XP scales with the pet rather than the ladder — a low-level pet earns far more per win than a high-level one.
One allowance, however many species. The species ladders are separate, but the SC they draw from is a single account-wide weekly pool. Switching pets or switching species shares the same allowance, so a very good week on one projection does not stack into an unlimited faucet.
The crew ladder
The Defense Center also runs a ladder of crew opponents. Each opponent advances the chosen pet once, on the first win; replays stay open for practice and award no additional XP. A completed circuit means every opponent has been beaten once with that pet.
Combat points and changing your mind
Combat points come from levels and are allocated on the pet itself. If an allocation stops fitting how you play, the Pet Retreat at Cloudloft can reset every assigned point back into the unspent pool, reroll a personality, or reroll an Element — one 24-hour service at a time.
FAQ
- Does practice use Hunger?
- No. The Defense Center labels it plainly: safe NPC practice, no Hunger used.
- How many times can I win against the same species?
- As often as you like. Each species pays for your first few wins of the week and later wins still earn XP — they simply stop paying SC for that species until the week resets.
- Does switching pets give me a second allowance?
- No. The SC allowance is one account-wide weekly pool, so every species and every pet draw from the same total. XP is per win and is not capped that way.
- When does the week reset?
- Monday, Eastern time.
