Many do. A badge can have several thresholds, and crossing one awards its reward and sends you a notification.

Do achievements still count after a game's daily SC cap?

Yes. Once a game reaches its daily SC ceiling it stops paying SC, but scores, streaks, and achievement progress keep counting.

Earning badges

Achievements track things you were going to do anyway — playing games, finding species, cooking, fishing, gardening, trading, and taking part in the community. Most are counters: each qualifying action nudges the total, and crossing a level threshold unlocks that level's reward.

Where they show

Your badges live on your achievements page and on your public profile, so a visitor can see what you have been up to without you having to say so.
