Good morning. I'm Marlowe Hale, and this is The Drift.
Bonnie's Familiar Spotlight
Bonnie here. A page from the field notebook today: #Frostplume Vix.
Born where snowdrifts meet tropical skies, the Frostplume Vix carries feathery crests of ice-blue along its ears and tail, shimmering softly as though lit from within. It trots with a cheerful bounce, leaving tiny glowing pawprints that melt into little stars.
@Kiksadi made the original discovery.
There's more to learn in the familiar pages of the Almanac.
From the Reverie Steps
Scooter Fenn here, on the steps with the board freshly chalked.
The Reverie Steps moved twice in one day: story entries opened for Candy and music voting opened for Plushies. Here is the whole day at once.
The story round for Candy is open for entries. Write an original story inspired by candy: Sweet inventions, sharing, and a treat that changes hands. Let a choice, surprise or encounter change what the characters understand.
This is one round of a shared theme, and the theme runs in order — story first, then art, then music. Each round can answer the one before it, so work from an earlier stage is fair game to build on.
Still to come in this theme: the art round on Sat, Oct 24 ET and then the music round on Sat, Oct 31 ET.
Entries stay yours alone until the round closes, so nobody sees your work while you are still tinkering with it. When it opens for voting, everything goes up together.
What's on the board
- First place: 5,000 SC and
#Sugarstar Crown - Second place: 2,500 SC and
#Taffy Wand - Third place: 1,000 SC and
#Praline Heart - Fourth to tenth: 500 SC each
Everyone who enters — whether or not they place — earns
#Popple Bonbon Squeaker and
Popple Sweet Share sticker.
Voting has opened in the music round for Plushies. Everything that was submitted is on the board at once, and voters can rank their favourites until the round closes.
The cast take part as guests: their work is shown and scored beside everyone else's, but places and prizes go to players.
Take a look at Candy and Plushies.
A look at the skies
Let's take a quick peek at the skies before anyone leaves their umbrella at home.
Harbor mist on the headland — A low silver mist is sliding past the eastern cape without obscuring the beacon.
Steady rain over Emberhearth — A patient island rain is soaking the terraces, bazaar roofs, and garden paths.
Powder snow across Baltinor — Fine dry snow is crossing the expedition camp and gathering against the old runes.
A clear tide at Iskerval — The bay has settled glass-clear beneath the docks, revealing the rocks below.
Lantern blooms under the trees — Bioluminescent flowers are glowing more brightly along the forest floor tonight.
Electric haze around the citadel — A harmless blue haze is gathering where the spire's field meets the evening air.
A cloudbank at garden height — A soft bank of cloud is passing the lower bridges and mossy aqueducts.
