Hey folks! I know a ton of us are veterans of multiple pet sites in the past, so I created a survey in order to gain insight on people's relationships and thoughts about their experience on Sensipets and other sites! It'd be great to hear from you!

Done! Thanks for the survey. I'm looking forward to seeing how it's used.

If I may state an opinion of mine, I dislike user shops very much. As well as user galleries. I never liked them in Neopets. I'm sure many people disagree with me, but that's just how I feel. I went into more detail on the survey.

I haven't read you response yet, but I can definitely understand why you'd feel that way, and I have met others who say the same.

Folks may see user shops as being added as a means of economy, but another important reason they're added is due to different player's playstyles. User shops offer a way to continue to make money without having to spend extensive time playing games, especially if they have little free time to begin with. There's many ways to create ways for users to earn money, but a good portion of those follow a work style of having to continously spend time on site in order to earn funds, when many, especially today, as many of pet site players are 18+ and in college/jobs.

I understand that. And I won't decide not to play on a site with user shops. I just remember years slaving away on minigames to earn enough Neopoints to buy paintbrushes and gourmet foods from other users who were charging considerably more for them in their shops after they swiped them all up from the NPC shops. And it really sucked. Double that for user galleries where people just hoarded rare items to show them off while other players who wanted to use them couldn't get any. In addition to the obvious unconverted pets on Neopets, the hoarding and reselling of items led to a lot of people hacking accounts that had a lot of Neopoints and/or rare items, stealing from them, and/or selling hacked accounts for real money to people who couldn't get their hands on the items they wanted. That's why I ultimately quit Neopets.

Ohhh yeah I know that feel, especially during that time at Neopets. I think a really good way to combat it, if done correctly, is to have both a ground-level and a ceiling. Neopets' users have actually developed this method themselves. For example, a Baby PB costs 600k in the Hidden Tower. In the past, folks would get Baby PBs and jack up the price, but then that habit stopped, because the Baby PB was always there. A purchase from a user didn't affect the rarity of the paintbrush. As such, folks rarely would get Baby PBs sold for higher than 600k, because people knew they had access to get it themselves for a smaller price.

These days, that Baby PB method has actually been used in order to bypass the Trading Post limitations. The Trading post only allows 2 mil pure NP. So folks will often say that they will trade items for 2 mil pure, and then an amount of Baby PBs equalling the rest of the price. It's so easy to sell the Baby PBs back at 600k, that its how users prefer to make their money.

Having that ceiling in the form of excess and accessible supply is a great way to ensure resellers can't take advantage of specific items. If I personally implemented it, I wouldn't necessarily do it for all items, but for those that are already difficult to obtain due to site requirements, having a ceiling is a good way to keep folks incentivized to earn it themselves for the base price, versus having to deal with a scalper of a rare item jacking up the price.
