Memory Game - Color Blindness
I've been playing the memory game a lot recently, and noticed a potential concern in color blindness. So once I completed the board I took a screenshot and sent it to my brother who is red-green colorblind. He responded with a screenshot of the green & red square objects next to one another and said, "The red would need to be darker if anything."
I also took the image into photoshop and put a black color layer over it (Which allows you to see the tone of the colors without the colors themselves. This is different from lowering the saturation as saturation affects how we perceive color. You can get the same effect with the Color Deepen setting in SAI). The results showed that if someone had true color blindness (seeing no color at all), a few of the items would be easily confused when flipping through cards. Examples are the square objects and the red & purple nail polish.
Items - Color Blindness/General Accessibility
While this was brought up in another thread, adding it here in order to put everything in the same place couldn't hurt. Currently, there is no way to check what color an item is. If you're trying to change your pet's color, it can become a complete shot in the dark on if an item qualifies or will break your progress. Interestingly, someone brought up that a blue cotton candy item changed their pet pink. While I'm unsure if that's a bug or on purpose (item might've been the bubblegum cotton candy), it makes it infinitely harder to figure out what color an item is. Showing what color an item is in the tooltip is the most accessible option. However, if there are any secret colors that can be discovered through feeding it may remove the surprise.
Thank you so much for making this thread, accessibility is very important to everyone here at Sensipets!
I'd love to make this a dialog so that we at Sensipets can make sure we are approaching these problems in a way that makes sense and solves the problems.
Memory Game and Color Blindness
Would one solution be to not reuse items that are different colors? So that the shapes are only used for one type of match? Most (if not all) the wearable concepts are being redone for the new system (including item art, which is what we use for the memory game). But we haven't reached the makeup pieces yet. (I have another concern here - but will make that a new section).
Items - Color Blindness/General Accessibility
Yeah I have been racking my brain thinking of ways to have a "surprise moment" - while not making it hard to interpret. When assigning colors to the items, even I had a problem when trying to figure out the color they would result in. I'm thinking for now maybe I can just expose the color when you use the item, and as we flesh out new characters and concepts build it into their functionality on the website. Thoughts?
New Human Avatar Items - Color Blindness
One of the big pieces of the new system that the artist is focusing on is color consistency. We've hidden some new lip shades under items you'll need to collect. But the colors themselves are shifts in hues, so I had a problem when naming/identifying them. The information you provided had me concerned about this. When it comes to makeup items the colors will be in the item names, but the image of the lipstick will be quite small, with only the tip pertaining to that color. Do you think the name in the item is enough? Would perhaps like a smudge of the color help in this scenario? I don't want someone saving up to by a fun new lipstick color but then not liking how it looks on their Avatar.
