Oh I love scary stories!!
It was nearing dusk, when I though it was about time to go home. I was in a small sandy cove just before the shallow riffles further down. This was practical my second home, everyday I got off the school bus, the cove is where I'd be.
Now you have to go through the dence forest to reach the cove. The trail is above a cliff on an old, skinny; nearly overgrown pathway. The riffle is just below the cliff, much of the pathway had been flooded away during high waters.
So you have swift waters to one side, with half the pathway washed away and on the other side, is covered in bramble, greenbrier, and blackberry bushes; with some fallen trees/branches thrown about.
Its getting darker and darker the further I go into the woods. I can hear the normal chatter, whispering, and screaming of the animals near by. The greenbrier and bushes are gripping me with their thorns and the decaying branches slipping under my feet. I ignore it all as I see the clearing ahead...
Bright light shines into my eyes as I reach the edge. Of course...it's still dusk... but as I walk away for home, something near the cliff catches my eyes. I turn around and..there are two boys.
Completely normal looking boys, chatting to each other like normal but I can not hear them. They headed into the trail; I just left.
These boys, I did not recognise and I was a bit curious, because only a few residents knew of this pathway.
I thought I'd follow them, see Who they were and Why they were going into woods at dusk. But as I got to the beginning of trail, I saw noone. I walked a little further in...noone.
Bewildered I though maybe they had ran ahead, not knowing of the thorns. So I ran, I ran until I came to a curve and stopped. A long dark but straight path greeted me, as I looked beyond, I still saw noone nor heard anyone. Because of the river to one side and thorns to the other, there is no way they could have gotten off the trail, nor anyplace to hide. They just disappeared?
Scared and out of breath, I turn around to the clearing and home. Nearly 20 years later...I have never seen those kids again nor has any of the residents knowledge of them.
